Project: Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London

ScrewFast were chosen by main contractors Logan Construction to design, build and install the foundations for a MRI Gantry Supports at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London.

Works took place within the grounds of a very busy hospital with narrow access, therefore quick installation and minimal movement of plant was essential.

Thanks to ScrewFast Foundations innovative solutions, the only plant used in the installation process was a 13 tonne rubber tracked excavator, with 90kN Torque head and 6m Rock auger attachments. Installation of 14No. Helical Piles to a depth of 9 metres with 4No Steel Grillages in just 3 shifts of 8 hours, minimising disruption to the traffic at the busy public location.

The ScrewFast helical piling systems do not produce spoil, therefore minimal waste was generated on site as a result and this negated the need for the contractor to use skips or arrange the removal.

The installation crew comprised of just one Plant Operator and 2 Installers, all of whom were CSCS or CPCS card holders. Offsite support was provided by the ScrewFast design and Project Management teams, and direct communication was available with the Construction Manager and Projects Office at all times.
