ScrewFast Foundations Win Two Awards
November 2010 proved to be a successful month for ScrewFast Foundations Limited. First, Balfour Beatty Mott MacDonald won the environmental “Zero Harm Excellence Award” on ScrewFast Foundations bespoke driven tube foundation solution. Balfour Mott McDonald, who are the Managing Agent Contractors on behalf of the Highways Agency in Area 4, were given their award for the installation of passive street lighting on ScrewFast Foundations (Area 4 covers motorways and trunk roads in Kent, Sussex and part of Surrey)
- The solution created the following environmental and safety benefits for the scheme:
- Minimised timescales compared to conventional methods of installation (2 nights compared to 12).
- Significantly lower man hours working on site.
- No excavation required on site resulting in minimal waste disposal off site compared to conventional method.
- Significantly lower carbon footprint, work force movement to and from site – shorter timescales of project completion
- Reduced energy used on site
- Minimum excavation.
- Negligible amount of waste transported from site.
- Allows removal of lighting columns without damage unlike that of a column in a conventional foundation which is generally unfit for re-use.
In the same week that the announcement was made, ScrewFast Foundations’ management and staff attended a gala dinner at Knebworth House, where Hertfordshire Business Awards for 2010 were presented. ScrewFast was a finalist in the “Creative Innovation” category which was sponsored this year by Roche. They entered their innovative GRIP® pile which can be installed into rocky ground making the use of ScrewFast piles more versatile. ScrewFast is renowned for their continued development of new and improved foundation solutions.
